I love S.J. Frost. She is a great storyteller. I love this series as well. This installment is a bit different. It didn't have a big OMG factor as in other of this series. Carl and Egill were great and a nice fit. Daniel as always being the comedic relief. One thing about a series is seeing the other characters you love as well. That was one of the best things about the book. I just wish there was more angst but good and easy read. It was cute and enjoyable.Product details

Well I say this was an okay read. Thought it be different some how. I liked it but at the same time felt bored with it. Needed more if that "OOMPH" factor! Overall a 3 star outta 5 star.
Adapting Instincts by S.J. Frost is the love story of two men but with a unique supernatural twist that makes this a breath of fresh air in a genre that's been flooded with mediocre stories. The basics are covered in the blurb, but you need to read the story to really appreciate the rich details that bring this character driven tale to life, with a smoothly flowing plot filled with enough angst, passion, pain, love, betrayal, and political intrigue that you feel like you've been granted a glimpse into the lives of real life people who could be your next door neighbor. The book is told in chronological order, with enough detail provided by flashbacks to tie the story together in a fantastic whole. I really enjoyed the HEA ending and would happily recommend this book to everyone.

Adapting Instincts
The discovery of real vampires has Carl Anderson questioning his beliefs. After all, it is the vampires who saved his life when the hunters would have killed him and it is the vampire Egill Dalgaard that Carl will never forget.
Adapting Instincts is the fourth book in the Instincts series. Carl loves his job at the zoo working with the primates but Carl is lonely without his best friend, who is now living in Africa with his eternal partner. Carl is intelligent, in addition to being a compassionate man. Nevertheless, his acts of compassion without forethought give Carl the appearance of being untrustworthy to some of the vampires. Combined to that the obstacle of Carl's low self esteem; the possibility of having a relationship with Egill is not very promising. The proposal to join his best friend's animal sanctuary in Africa is the only positive thing Carl has in his life until Egill returns for a short visit. The understanding Carl and Egill acquire about each other deepens their desire to move forward into a relationship.
S.J. Frost has created another superb addition to this captivating series. In this enjoyable installment, the characters are emotionally engaging with a blend of dramatic action, Daniel's snarky humor, sensual lovemaking as well as feisty pets with attitude. Carl stirred my ire on more than one occasion but he redeemed himself as the story developed. All of the characters featured in the first book Natural Instincts are included in Adapting Instincts.
This series is best read in sequence
Primate zoologist Dr. Carl Anderson is processing the knowledge that vampires do exist. His best friend Andreas was recently turned by his lover who's been around since the days of the Romans. They're now setting up an animal refuge in Tanzania and want Carl to join them.
Leaving his position at the zoo and traveling to Africa isn't the only thing on Carl's mind. He also can't forget the kiss he received from a gorgeous Viking vampire several months ago. Egill Dalgaard made a lasting, lusty impression on the scientist, one he'd love to explore further if the stoic vampire would let him.
When Egill does show up Carl is willing to take the plunge and get to know the long lived vampire better. Carl's dreams of happiness with him are put to the test however when a vampire hunter from their past shows up and Egill gets the wrong impression. If only Egill will let Carl explain.
This sexy page turner hits the bulls-eye straight to the heart. From start to finish Adapting Instincts entertains the reader with emotional highs and lows. Love and loss, happiness and heartache, Carl is put through the ringer with miscommunication the culprit. In this fourth book of the Instincts Series Carl and Egill finally embrace the love before them after a long journey of guilt and recrimination. Excellent word building, hot sex, and characters to love Adapting Instincts is a fitting addition.

I really enjoyed Carl and Egills story. Hot hot hot! This series is on of my favorites and this book did not did not disappoint.
